Dear Students and Families,

In order to deter the rapid spread of novel coronavirus, Korean School of Federal Way will remain closed through April 25 in accordance with Governor Jay Inslee’s decree calling for the emergency shutdown of all public and private schools in Washington state.
This and other aggressive public safety measures have necessitated dramatic shifts in our lifestyles and behaviors, leaving many of us in a state of heightened unease and concern.
While it is frustrating that we cannot predict when this pandemic will finally subside, we must all rally together as a community to take care of ourselves and one another by practicing proper hygiene and effective social distancing.
Though we may be faced with a protracted battle against COVID-19, if we follow these good practices day by day and week by week, then there is no storm we cannot weather together and the day will soon arrive when we can all gather once more to learn at Korean school.

Over the past few weeks, KSFW’s board and administrators have been discussing at-home learning alternatives that will enable our students to continue their Korean language studies during this period of extended school closure.
We have decided that the most viable solution is to mail out a six-week study packet to each of our students.
Our teachers are currently working on compiling study packets for their classes and we expect to mail them out to students and families by this weekend.
Students will be able to submit their completed study packets and receive feedback from their teachers when Korean school resumes after the six-week closure.
Please be sure to check our school website on a regular basis as teachers will be posting additional instructions and supplemental learning materials on their class webpage every week.

We are fully aware that guided at-home study is a less-than-perfect substitute for learning in a classroom with real-time teacher-to-student and peer-to-peer interaction.
With this understanding, our school board and administrators are considering different options for making up the projected 6-day deficit in our usual 15-session semester.
Please stay tuned for an announcement regarding this matter.
We will share additional updates as needed while we continue to monitor developments in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing love and support.
We hope that our students and families remain healthy, safe, and resilient during this most challenging of times.

With warmest regards,

Hee Jung Lee
