The honorific ending -(으)세요
: It is used when a speaker needs to show respect to whom they’re talking to or being talked about.

– w/ 받침: c+으세요
– w/o 받침: v+세요

<이다 to be>
1. Polite ending
– c+이에요
– v+예요
2. Honorific ending
– c+이세요
– v+세요

(1) My name is Tessa => 제 이름은 테사예요 (you don’t use the honorific ending for yourself)
(2) She is my professor => 그녀는 제 교수님이세요 (교수님was ended with a consonant so ‘이세요’ is used)
(3) He is my boss => 그는 제 보스세요 (보스 was ended with a vowel)
(4) That’s my dog => 이거는 제 개예요 (don’t honor animals)

<있다 to have, to exist>
1. Polite ending
– 있어요
2. Honorific ending
– Existence: 계세요
– Possession: 있으세요

(1) Sir, how many dogs do you have? => 저기요, 개를 몇 마리 가지고 있으세요?
(2) My father is inside => 제 아버지는 안에 계세요
(3) I have two older sisters => 저는 두 언니가 있어요 (don’t have to honor your siblings)
(4) My grandmother mostly stays home => 제 할머니는 주로 집에 계세요
